Michael Jackson Turns 50
Yeppers. You read that right. Jacko is 50. Makes you feel old doesn’t it.
Back in ‘69 after the Jackson 5 signed with Barry Gordy and Motown he appeared on national tv at the ripe old age of 11.
In ‘78 Quincy Jones produced Jackson’s solo album “Off The Wall.” It sold 10 million copies.
In ‘82 at the cost of $500,000 he came out with “Thriller” which sold 65 million copies.
In ‘87 Martin Scorcese’s video for Bad Michael had distinctly lighter skin, leading to rumors of plastic surgery and skin bleaching. That album sold 30 million copies.
In ‘93 Jacko was accused of molesting 11-year-old Jordy Chandler. He pays an out of court settlement of about $20 million.
‘94 was the year he married Lisa Marie Presley in an attempt to repair his tarnished public image. The couple divorced 19 months later.
In ‘95 he placed giant statues of himself around Europe promoting his latest album “HIStory”
In ‘97 Jackson was inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In that same year he married Debbie Rowe, who was pregnant with his child, Prince Michael.
In ‘98 his daughter Paris Michael Katherine was born.
In ‘99 he and Debbie Rowe got divorced.
In 2001 his album “Invincible” lasted just 6 weeks on the charts.
In 2003 Jacko was arrested and charged molesting a 14 year old named Gavin Arvizo. The trial lasted 5 months and Jackson was found not guilty.
Jackson moved to Dubai right after the trial and to the best of my knowledge has produced nothing since in spite of rumors of a come back. Including a gig in Las Vegas
