This headline is from a PC Magazine article by Michael Lasky, telling you ways to circumvent company security policy.
He says these methods are legal and safe.
First: The deliberate circumvention of company policy by any means is neither legal nor safe.
Second: This person obviously has never had to deal with security breaches, computer crashes, or government regulations.
To tell people that it’s perfectly alright to compromise a corporate network while claiming no harm can be done is irresponsible and a demonstration of either unmitigated arrogance or complete ignorance.
IM has become a major conduit for trojans and other nastiness.
The use of a proxy does not prevent that blocked site sending data to your machine. Otherwise you would be unable to see the website at all.
While U3 drives do not write to the windows registry, they do use windows memory and if there’s a virus or trojan on the drive, in all probability it will infect the machine it’s attached to and quite possibly the entire network.
Given current federal law, your company not only has the right to monitor your email. In many cases they have a legal obligation to do so.
This is another example of an irresponsible reporter using headlines to sell stories.
